The Pocket Concierge

Conrad's innovative new app makes hotel service simple and easy

By Virginia Vanzanten

As your plane comes to a stop, you pull out your phone and preselect a brand of designer bath amenities to help soften your hotel arrival. (Aromatherapy Associates, Shanghai Tang, or Tara Smith Vegan Haircare? Which will it be?) Strolling back to your hotel after a long, late dinner with clients, you set up tomorrow's wake-up call without ever breaking stride.

The next morning, at the hotel gym, you get in a good workout on the elliptical while simultaneously ordering the breakfast that will be awaiting you when you get back to the room.

It's a new concept in hotel service, and it comes to you through your mobile device. The new Conrad Hotels & Resorts concierge app for iPhone, iPad, and Android puts a suite of services and room customizations at your fingertips—even before you check in. The app, available in 13 languages, is the first in the industry to facilitate every step of your hotel experience: booking, pre-arrival planning, on-property requests, and any communication after the stay is over.

It's linked directly to the hotel's operations team, so virtually any request you make may immediately be fielded, directly and efficiently, from anywhere at any time. Need to request a shoeshine before an important meeting tomorrow? Want some extra towels or firmer pillows? Have another housekeeping request? Need a car service to pick you up at 7a.m.? No worries. Wherever you are, just pull out your smartphone or tablet and click. It's part app, part concierge, and all access—a 24-hour personal assistant, and it's all right at your fingertips.

A Plugged-in Ride

More than 37 million people live in Tokyo. And some days, it seems like all 37 million are stuck in the same traffic jam with you. It's OK, though. Conrad Tokyo offers a luxury car service to and from the city's airports that—among its many other benefits—can abate travel time, thanks to a unique navigation system that adjusts routes based on real-time traffic.

The best part: The ride can be enjoyable and productive. Guests are greeted with a newspaper, water, and a hot face towel. Those lucky enough to be chauffeured in the hotel's Audi A8 get bonuses, like a Bose sound system. Even if the exclusive Audi A8 isn't available (there's only one, and it's first come, first served), rest assured that every car provides free Wi-Fi. Plus, guests can request an iPad; click on the FaceTime app and you'll instantly be face-to-face with the concierge.
