Conrad Maldives is the perfect base for those who like to explore their surroundings and be at one with nature. We offer the widest selection of activities in the country, ranging from the leisurely to the active.
Here are a few ideas to inspire you:
Sail away: charter one of our yachts and simply lose yourself on the horizon of your dreams. Whether your fantasy is to simply cruise around the atoll dropping anchor wherever the snorkeling takes your fancy, or the lure of your own chef setting up a seafood feast on the perfect sandbank or your own private island is more your cup of tea, there's no getting away from it: this is perfection in paradise. Choose from Rangali Raani for a traditional sailing yacht, or the Rehendi for a super luxury cruiser.
If the idea of playing Robinson Crusoe on a picture-perfect island appeals to you, then a deserted island trip is a 'must try'. Hop on board and you're soon dropped off at a deserted island, just the two of you. It's certainly a lot more luxurious than Crusoe's experience, though: a picnic table, chilled drinks and umbrella will be waiting for you. Your man Friday will even give you a mobile phone so you can call for someone to pick you up when you're done swimming, snorkeling, sunbathing and exploring the island. Keep an eye out for dolphins on the way over to the island.
The Maldives is justifiably famous for the beauty of the underwater world. While the house reef is outstanding, nothing beats a trip to nearby coral reefs. Whether you choose snorkelling hopping or a snorkelling safari, the idea is the same: a local wooden boat, called a dhoni, will take you to some of the more spectacular reefs where you can snorkel to your heart's content. There's no obligation to be in the water all time either; the roof of the dhoni makes the perfect sunbathing spot to re-energise for your next dip.
Meeting the locals always makes for an interesting story once you're home and there's no better way to do this than by visiting a local village. Several times a week we'll guide you around various local islands for a slice of what real life is like. Excursions run to various islands and no matter where you dock, for sure you'll be greeted by a gaggle of excited children! You may have the opportunity to see a traditional dhoni boat being built, or maybe pop in to see the local school. There's usually the opportunity to buy some souvenirs from local shops and traders to take back with you. Depending on which village you visit and the schedule of the islanders you may even find yourself being invited to take tea and taste Maldivian short eats (spicy snacks) with the Island Chief.
Activities at Conrad Maldives:
Our excursions are listed below. Please note that they may change from time to time depending on the weather and other factors. Some excursions require a minimum number of guests before they can go ahead.
Big game fishing: jump on board and see if you can reel in a big one: tuna, swordfish, wahoo, sailfish, sharks, marlin...
Cinema Under the Stars: cozy up on a daybed or bean bag on the beach and watch the stars of Hollywood compete with the stars in the night sky overhead at our weekly open air cinema.
Discover snorkelling: our resort's house reef is beautiful and only steps from the beaches of the main island. If you're a little unsure about snorkelling then this excursion with a guide is a good choice for you. Note: a maximum of four guests per guide can go on this excursion.
Snorkelling safari: visit some of our favourite snorkelling sites where you might spot turtles, sharks and possibly even a manta ray.
Dream island excursion: we drop you on our own deserted island. Picture yourself walking hand in hand across an empty beach, relaxing in the shade of a whispering palm tree, the waves gently lapping at your feet, or exploring a wonderful coral garden.
Fishing village: come and visit a local village for a true glimpse into the real Maldivian lifestyle. We tour different villages on different days and you never know what you might see.
Glass-bottomed Boat Trip: Take a trip to experience Rangali's fabulous reefs and watch the underwater wildlife without getting your feet wet with this memorable trip on our glass-bottomed boat.
Island hopping: a half day trip, this is perfect if you want to discover the Maldives. Hop from one island to another by speedboat.
Luxury sunset cruise: take an awe-inspiring romantic cruise over the deep blue ocean on board our luxury cruiser 'Rehendhi'. As the sun sinks into the ocean in a glory of colours, our friendly crew members will serve champagne and chef's special canapés. It's moments like these that you'll remember for a lifetime.
Luxury lucky dolphin: jump on board our luxury yacht and head out to sea to see if we can be lucky enough to find the playful spinner dolphins who call this region of the Indian Ocean their home. Of course no sightings are guaranteed but it's always a lovely excursion.
Lucky dolphin: another opportunity to go dolphin spotting on board a traditional wooden dhoni.
Mandhoo Island trip: Mandhoo is a local island close to the resort. Take a tour of the village, then move onto the resort's gardens where trees, flowers, fruits, vegetables and herbs are all grown.
Night fishing: do you want to try your hand at the Maldivian national sport? Come night fishing with us on a dhoni where our fishermen take you to the best secret fishing places. Hand-reel bottom fishing is very popular and hopefully you will come back with the best reef fish: grouper, green job, blue fin jack…
Picnic on a deserted island: escape to a world of romance on a beautiful tropical island, where you while away the time sunbathing on a pristine beach, chilling under the shade of tropical greenery before sharing a lavish picnic on the sand.
Sunrise cruise on Rangali Raani: start the day in a spectacular way. Join us on our wooden yacht and watch the Maldives come to life with the sun rise over breakfast.
Sunset fishing: the beauty of a glorious sunset matched with all the fun of fishing! Our experienced dhoni crew will take you to their best fishing spots and help you to catch the next day's dinner. Enjoy the view of the sun slowly sinking in to the Indian Ocean, the stunning colours of the sky and the peace and tranquillity of a couple of hours on a dhoni.
Snorkelling hopping: join us on a speedboat excursion to explore some of the best snorkelling sites on various nearby reefs.
Whale shark snorkelling: We'll take you out to where the whale sharks are for an up-close and personal snorkel session alongside these peaceful giants. For up to nine months of the year the Maldives Whale Shark Research Programme team will be on board to teach you about these wonderful creatures and by participating in this excursion you'll help the whale shark research programme since part of the profits will go toward founding the team's research work. This excursion is available all year round with the scientists re-joining again when they're back on the island.
Water Sports at the Watersports Center: Enjoy a whole range of water sports activities such as catamaran sailing, windsurfing, canoeing, jet skiing, paddle boating, kayaking, wakeboarding, knee boarding and water cycling.
Diving at the Dive Center: South Ari Atoll is known for the best diving in the Maldives. SubAqua Dive Centre has multilingual instructors and offers PADI and SSI courses. Children over the age of five can go diving trips and daily trips for divers are run to a multitude of sites. A favorite dive site of the Maldives is Manta Point, only a 10 minute boat ride away, where guests can go diving and snorkeling to see mantas in the manta season (December - March). There are many other beautiful dive sites to choose from which showcase the diversity of the amazing aquatic life to be seen in the South Ari Atoll.
Children's Activities: Our Majaa kids' club is free to children aged 3 to 12 and open all day every day. See our attached example of activities that take place. Please note this programme can change from time to time.
Please note: some excursions and activities require a minimum number of participants in order to run.
